An Italian Masterpiece by Roberto Benigni. A deeply touching fable that shows the power of the human spirit over great adversity. Well crafted, with Benigni humor during the first part and a transition into the Holocaust horror towards the later part of the film. Benigni does a marvellous job which resulted in this heartwarming tale of a father in a Nazi POW camp who goes to great lengths to save his son both physically and psychologicaly from the effects of their situation, and ends up paying the ultimate price.
A unique film of great vision which is told with beauty and humour.
Contrary to being critized for making light of the holocaust, the film gives a unique prespective and is handled delicately. Benigni is a comic genius whose style is all his own and with La Vita è bella he gives a film that will stay with you long after the curtains come down.
